The EU F&B Technical Tasting in Wuhan offered food industry professionals an opportunity to experience the colourful diversity and wonderful taste of European foods and beverages.
Attended by food industry professionals, media and local food and beverage opinion leaders, the event was a gastronomic journey that showcased a wide range of foods and beverage products from EU countries including European meat, cheese, olive oil, table olives, wine, beer and spirits.
The EU F&B Technical Tasting in Wuhan featured a cooking demonstration and ham tasting led by Chef Xiao Mingliang, a leading culinary consultant based in Shanghai, an EU cheese presentation led by Marthijn Voerman, General Manager of Anich Dairy (Shanghai) Co. Ltd., and an EU wine and food pairing and tasting led by Zhang Yinchi, a high-level Wuhan-based sommelier. Chef Xiao’s cooking demo showcased delicious and simple recipes for French beef and Dutch veal that consumers can cook at home. Similarly, Chef Xiao demonstrated how to expertly carve thin slices of meat from a leg of Prosciutto di Parma PDO, one of Italy’s premier ham products.

Three European food Tasting Sessions formed the heart of the EU F&B Technical Tasting in Wuhan. The sessions featured Chef Xiao’s EU meat dishes, freshly sliced Prosciutto di Parma PDO ham, various European cheeses, and table olives, as well as fragrant and rich olive oil from Spain. During the Tasting Sessions, the characteristics of the various products, including their organoleptic characteristics, production methods, origin and geographical indications, were highlighted for the participants.
Tasting Session 1: Prosciutto di Parma PDO ham from Italy, Noord-Hollandse Gouda PDO cheese from The Netherlands, cheddar cheese from Ireland, Elia Kalamatas PDO olives from Greece and Estepa PDO olive oil from Spain.
Tasting Session 2: Veal from The Netherlands, Grana Padano PDO cheese from Italy, Danablu PGI cheese from Denmark, and green olives from Italy.
Tasting Session 3: Beef from France, Queso Manchego PDO cheese from Spain, Feta PDO cheese from Greece and black olives from Spain.
The premium EU wines featured in the Tasting Sessions were: Dealu Mare PDO red wine from Romania; Primorska Hrvatska PDO red wine from Croatia; Prekmurje PDO red wine from Slovenia; Weinviertel PDO white wine from Austria; Mosel PDO white wine from Germany; and Vinho Verde white wine from Portugal.
During the event, participants were introduced to the European Union’s geographical indications (GI) scheme.
