Description
The two-hour culinary session was led by Chef Roy Yu, and participants had the chance to explore EU food and ingredients while cooking their very own three-course European meal from entrée with Mozzarella Cheese Tomato Salad, Creamy Corn Soup with Jamón Serrano Ham PGI and the main with Moules de bouchot de la Baie du Mont-Saint-Michel PDO Mussels in Riesling Rheinhessen PDO (Germany). The Bouchot Mussels are in season and are a perfect dish to share during home gatherings for the upcoming festive celebrations, from Christmas, New Year to Lunar New Year. (Please refer to the Bouchot Mussels recipe in the Appendix).
The culinary session showcased six agricultural food and beverage products and five EU Geographical Indications (GI) products from across the EU – from Mozzarella cheese and Aceto Balsamico di Modena PGI vinegar from Italy, Extra Virgin Olive Oil Kalamata PDO from Greece, Jamón Serrano Ham PGI from Spain, Moules de bouchot de la Baie du Mont-Saint-Michel PDO Mussels from France simmered with Riesling Rheinhessen PDO from Germany. Geographical indication labelling schemes are a guarantee of authenticity. EU quality policy aims at protecting the names of specific products to promote their unique characteristics, linked to their geographical origin and traditional know-how. There are currently over 3 000 agricultural food products covered by these schemes.
